IFTR promotes the maintenance of the native breeds, the population of which are slowly eroding, in agriculture. As part of extension, it also intends conducting training programmes to educate on the merits of maintaining local breeds to control diseases and avoid complications faced by modern breeds. This also includes practices in cattle management, increased awareness of rural lot with regard to feeding, rearing, management and disease prevention.  As part of training beneficiaries are trained on dairy, poultry, feed production, fodder and azolla cultivation as part of live feed production.
